IJsselstein in Christmas Spheres

In cooperation with Visit Utrecht Region, we did some winter activities in Utrecht Region. One of those activities was a visit to IJsselstein, because there you can find the biggest Christmas tree in the world! So Come Outside all of you!
About IJsselstein
IJsselstein originated as a settlement around Castle IJsselstein, so to speak. Of this, only one castle tower has survived. This castle tower, the Looierstoren, can be seen today at the entrance to the cozy center of the town. The rest of the castle was demolished in 1887 after it fell into disrepair. Today it is a national monument. The town lies on the Hollandse IJssel River and is also named after it.
Historical center
IJsselstein has a historic center where you can store just fine. Maybe not right now, but hopefully again after January 14. On De Plaats, in the heart of the shopping area, there will be a wish Christmas tree again this year. The Lions club IJsselstein-Lopikerwaard came up with this initiative. Last year the wish Christmas tree allowed hundreds of wishes to come true. Many people received a beautiful bunch of flowers or a nice chocolate gift. The idea for the wishing Christmas tree came about during the Corona era, and will again make many wishes come true this year. Because also this year, we all need to keep a little look out for each other.

Largest Christmas tree in the Netherlands
IJsselstein is home to the tallest structure in the Netherlands, the Gerbrandytoren. This tower is also known as the tallest Christmas tree in the world! The LED lights on the cables of the tower are lit in December making it look just like a Christmas tree. You can hardly ignore it! Only downside is that on the day we visited IJsselstein, it was terribly foggy. We did see the largest Christmas tree in the world, but only at the bottom. The top of the “tree” was unfortunately in the fog. But impressive it is! The picture above is from Hans Berkelaar to give you an impression of what the “Christmas tree” looks like!
IJsselstein in winter
You can store very well in IJsselstein and enjoy the local restaurants! With the Rondje IJsselstein or Beeldig IJsselstein for example! Moreover, this city also has a fascinating art museum(Museum IJsselstein), a beautiful historical mill(the Windotter) and lots of beautiful monumental buildings. In short: IJsselstein is a great place for a pleasant day out!
