The Upside Down

In June, it was my niece’s birthday. She was turning 13 and I gave her a day out together to a city of her choice in the Netherlands. She chose to go to Amsterdam with me. Since I didn’t want to just walk aimlessly through the city center with her, I made a selection of fun museums in Amsterdam that we could visit. From this she chose The Upside Down Amsterdam.

This Instagram museum turned out to be not only a visual feast for the eyes, but also a true experience that takes you on a journey through amazing upside down worlds.

A World of Imagination

You can find The Upside Down at Europaboulevard 5 in Amsterdam, right next to the RAI. Ideal to make use of the P R facility. We parked in the RAI parking garage and walked to the museum in a few minutes. We got there nice and early on Sunday morning so there was the best chance of it not being too crowded. And fortunately that turned out to be the case.

The Upside Down is much more than just a traditional museum. It consists of innovative and creative spaces that challenge the boundaries of reality and invite visitors to let their imaginations run wild. Upon entering, you are immediately immersed in an enchanting environment where everything seems to be upside down. Gravity seems to be at play and your senses are challenged in ways you never thought possible. We were allowed to have our pictures taken together right at the start, and then with some brief instructions we were able to explore the various rooms.

Instagram-worthy Highlights

Every room you visit has a different theme and look and feel. From rooms where furniture hangs from the ceiling to rooms with crooked floors and walls that challenge your balance, ball pits and a real subway station hanging down below. Every corner of this museum is designed to make for a unique photograph. There is something surprising in every corner of every room, inviting you to capture the perfect Instagram moment, blurring the lines between reality and illusion.

Interactive Experience

The emphasis at The Upside Down is on interaction. Visitors are encouraged to participate, become part of and even immerse themselves in the artworks. This creates an unforgettable experience where you are not just a spectator, but become actively involved in the artistic creations. The museum challenges you to change your perspective and make yourself part of the environment. At first we found this a bit difficult. Both of us are somewhat humble-minded and don’t really need to be in the foreground. But after a few initial, somewhat wooden poses, to quickly move on to the next room, we loosened up. The further we got through the museum, the crazier the poses and faces became.

All the photos to take home

In each room there is a camera that you can set up remotely to take your pose before it is shot. Some rooms even have multiple angles where you can take your picture. Activating the camera is done with the QR code on your entrance ticket. This also links all photos to your name and e-mail address. As a result, once you have visited all the rooms, you can scan your code in the lobby and have all the photos emailed to yourself. We did this, of course! My favorite was the gif we are in together. My niece liked the pictures in the ball pit best.

Conclusion

The UpsideDown Instagram Museum in Amsterdam is a must-visit destination for anyone looking for an unforgettable creative, interactive and funny experience. Be taken on a journey full of wonder and amazement with the enchanting rooms and unique photo opportunities. Immerse yourself in the upside-down world of The Upside Down discover the magic that waits on the border of reality and imagination.
