Anyone with school-age children is familiar with the phenomenon: the children’s party. With two school-aged children, Ester has organized or witnessed quite a few parties with friends. Since it is always difficult to think of something fun to do, we give you some ideas for a fun party.

Kinderfeestje

Especially when the children are still small, like in kindergarten, it is nice to have a party at home. However, it is always a challenge to keep the children busy, because before you know it you have a bunch of unguided projectiles in your house. If you’re creative, you can come up with some fun activities. But for the less creative mothers among us, we have tips!

Birthday box

You can get different themed boxes full of dress-up clothes and props to make a fun themed party.

Colleague Sonja once organized a superhero party for her son. She rented a crate with all different superhero suits for the kids to choose from. She and her friend also went to the trouble of blowing up a lot of balloons. These were bombs that the children had to defuse. The children also had to maneuver through laser beams (a ball of wool used to make a kind of web construction).

There are many different themes available, including for girls. For example, you have a princess chest, an army chest, petting zoo chest, jungle chest and many more.

Crafts

Another thing that is always fun is to do crafts with the kids. Be it jewelry, painting birdhouses, painting window stickers, making magic sand or decorating yummy cakes. If kids can mess around and tinker a little, they’ll soon be satisfied.

Get moving

If the children coming to the party are a little busier in nature, make sure they get some good exercise. Set up a scavenger hunt in the park, throw a soccer party or organize a hexathlon. And when you have the luxury of having the space in front of your door, or on the lawn across the street, rent a bouncy castle. That way the kids can expend their energy and you won’t be stuck with all that junk in your house. What you can also do is hire a sports instructor for a sports party. They will supervise the sports activity while you have your hands free to prepare some goodies for the kids.

Party outside the door

When you throw an outdoor party, the possibilities are endless. For example, you can take the kids bowling, swimming, to the cinema or to the local indoor playground or trampoline park. But there are many more things to do for a fun kids’ party outside the door.

These days, for example, there are escaperooms for kids in which they are challenged to think about how to get free. One such children’s escaperoom can be found at De Voltage in Tilburg. They also have very nice packages for children’s parties so definitely worth checking out. And when the kids prefer to be sporty, you can also turn it into a ski party. You learn to ski on a roller conveyor so it doesn’t matter if one child has skiing experience and the other has never skied before.

What is a favorite at our house is a nerf party. At De Uithof in The Hague you will find Airsoft INC. Here children of 10 or more can compete with each other in a hall completely decorated as an army hall to take the flag away from the other team. But beware, if you get hit by a nerf-arrow, you have to return to your own base and start all over again. Fortunately, the darts are made of soft material and the kids are all given protective goggles before going in. So it’s all safe, but does look nice and military all around.

Also fun is to go on a survival trip with the kids. You can do this at 2sur5 in Wateringen, Outdoorvalley in Rotterdam and Poldersport in de Kwakel. The children have to complete a course, climb ropes, jump over water or swing. The task is to avoid falling into the water, but in the end everyone gets wet. The one lucky person who makes it through the course unscathed is bound to get pushed and still end up in the ditch. 😊

Are you looking for a typical girl’s party? Then go mermaid swimming. Several pools around the country host these parties where the girls learn how to swim with such a beautiful tail. And once you get the basic technique down, you’ll learn fun tricks, too. A swimming certificate for all participants is mandatory, of course!

Fun for boys and girls

You can also have a children’s party organized. For example, with an organized scavenger hunt in a city of your choice! All you have to do is choose which organization and in which city you want to do the scavenger hunt. This is the ideal way to get to know a city and each other. Who is a born leader? Who can read maps well? And who pays attention to detail? A great idea for a children’s party! We have written a blog about scavenger hunts before and you can find it here. Good luck and have fun!
