- Sixpence Public House on Papestraat. A nice place to have a drink with good company before heading further into town.
Going out on the square and the Grote Markt
The Plein and the Grote Markt are the main attractions of The Hague city center at night. These two squares are the epicenter of going out in The Hague with an amazing concentration of bars, pubs, terraces and clubs within walking distance of each other.
The Plein is home to some true classics. De Haagsche Kluis, located in a former bank building from 1900, is a cultural-historical building and a true Hague institution. Café Berger is known as the drinks bar of the city center, with an extensive drinks menu, delicious beers on tap, cocktails and surprising wines.
For those in the mood for more sophistication and cocktails, Moya Tapas Club is a hip tapas club with impressive ambiance. A fine place to eat during the day, but at night (especially Friday and Saturday) it becomes a real party venue with DJs where you can dance while enjoying tapas and cocktails. You will also find Millers on the Plein, which is a cozy restaurant during the day and transforms into a club with national and international DJs at night (Thursday to Saturday). Danzig in Lange Houtstraat is a popular nightclub just off the Plein with the biggest music hits.
The Grote Markt bustles with even more possibilities. Here you will find Café Restaurant De Zwarte Ruiter, a large bar with strong atmosphere where live music also takes place. There are also plenty of other bars and terraces on the square, including Vavoom Tiki Room, a unique tiki bar where you can enjoy tropical cocktails.
Enjoying live music
Want to start your evening just a little differently? Look for live music on the schedule. Many bars and cafes have regular performances or smaller concerts. Some bars even have open mic nights or jazz performances where you can enjoy something other than just a drink.
Crazy Goat has live music almost every night. On Tuesday singer-songwriter night, Wednesday blues, Thursday and Sunday jazz and on Saturday an open mic night. A perfect place for those who like live performances in a casual atmosphere.
On the Papestraat you will find Muziekcafé De Paap, a fine place for lovers of rock music and intimate live performances.
And for those who fancy some extra fun with friends, the OhOhDenHaag Kroegentocht is a fun way to discover several hotspots in one evening – including party guides, shots and party pubs.
Crazy Pianos in Scheveningen has been a household name for decades. Here different pianists each play with their own style and it often automatically becomes a big party.
