Speurtocht Delft

Our son’s birthday was on April 2, so he celebrated a corona birthday for the second time. But this year we insisted on arranging a children’s party for him. But one that was Coronaproof, of course. So we had thought of keeping the party very small and outdoors. And it was a great success!

A scavenger hunt

Scavenger hunts are always fun. For example, we used to go on scavenger hunts at home with girlfriends that were made by my parents. Nowadays you don’t have to put a scavenger hunt together yourself. In fact, you can outsource it! We chose to do the Whatsapp Junior Moordtocht by Stad Unique in Delft, but there are many other providers in this area. I will give you tips on that later in this blog. For now, I will tell you what our experience was with this treasure hunt.

City walk with an assignment

Speurtocht Delft 2

City Unique’s Whatsapp Junior Murder Tour is suitable for children ages 8 to 14. We went out with all 11-year-olds, so that put us right in the middle. The murder tour would last about three hours and during that time we were in contact with one of Stad Unique’s employees. We did intend to finish within three hours, but there would be plenty of time to take a break. We chose Delft as our city. This is because that is close to where we live and we could ask the parents to bring and pick up the children themselves. Before starting, you get a map of the city on which a grid is drawn. In addition, you get a number of pictures that each have their own coordinates that you can then look for in a particular grid. So the children have to look for the image in that picture. Found it? Then take a group photo and send it to the remote game leader. The latter then sends a clue.

What’s the point?

There are 7 people visiting Delft. And one of them is murdered! It is up to the children to find out who was murdered, with what, by whom and at what time. When they saw that it was a photo scavenger hunt, they got all excited and soon the first photo was found. Once the first clue was in, we really got going.

Our experience

Speurtocht Delft 3

We went out with 4 pretty smart kids, so we honestly expected to finish a little faster. But the game leader sometimes had an extra task up his sleeve so we ended up finishing the job in 2 hours and 45 minutes. Somewhere halfway through, our attention began to wane a bit, but of course that is not surprising. We then took a break and after that things went well again. They got everything right the first time! Afterwards in Delft we got a nice ice cream at Otelli’s to celebrate the success of the mission. According to the children and us it was a great party!

More treasure hunts for children’s parties

Speurfactory has several scavenger hunts for children aged 4 to 11. For the slightly older kids, they have escape room games that you can play at home. The scavenger hunts by 4tot12kinderfeestje.nl are also a lot of fun. On their website, you can choose from three age categories that each have their own games. In addition to fun scavenger hunts, Grapevine also has GPS scavenger hunts and escape games. With the free Troovie App, you can create your own cool scavenger hunt in the neighborhood. Available for Apple and Android. OERRR from Natuurmonumenten has scavenger hunts for kids in the fresh outdoors. And with Adventure with GPS you can do a GPS scavenger hunt in nature. There are several locations that young explorers will absolutely love!

The Little Walk of Horrors

Not real scavenger hunts but still fun!

Walk the City has developed a super handy app that allows anyone to take a fun city walk or walk in nature. During your walk you will learn all kinds of things about the city or area of your choice complete with fun facts and anecdotes. Incredibly fun and interesting for children! Very different are the city walks from The Little Walk of Horrors! With these walks you will discover the dark side of the city. Unlike Walk the City, the city walks of The Little Walk of Horrors are actually 100% offline: you receive a handy booklet with clear pictures and information about the bloody history of a particular place along with separate clear directions. After a Horror Walk, you’ll know all about the city’s dark history and which buildings are haunted! These Horrorwalks are suitable for children 12 years and older.
