The best amusement parks in the Netherlands
If you spend the summer vacation in the Netherlands with children, you need to keep them a little occupied. If the weather is nice, you can go to the beach or go swimming in an outdoor pool or natural water. But children also often find it very fun to spend a day out to a real amusement park. The most famous amusement park in the Netherlands is, of course, the Efteling. And the best amusement park for thrillseekers is of course Walibi Holland. But if you are staying in other parts of the Netherlands, there are many more fun amusement parks to be found. Both for thrill seekers, and for small children.
In this blog we give you an overview of the best amusement parks and where in the Netherlands you can find them.
Amusement parks in the west of the Netherlands
In North Holland and South Holland you will find several amusement parks. Duinrell in Wassenaar and Drievliet in The Hague are amusement parks with several splashing attractions. Several roller coasters, carousels and much more. In Duinrell you can then also visit the Tiki Pool with its (in my opinion…) terrifying slides.
Are your kids a little smaller or do you prefer to take it a little easier? Then Oud Valkeveen in Naarden, Linnaeushof in Heemstede and Plaswijkparck in Rotterdam are great amusement parks to visit. Oud Valkeveen and Linnaeushof are very spacious playgrounds with various attractions such as bumper cars, a monorail and beautiful slides. In Plaswijkpark you can not only have fun in different playground equipment, but also splash around in the water playground and visit the Animal Kingdom.
You will also find several amusement parks in Zeeland, such as family amusement park Mini Mundi in Middelburg. Neeltje Jans is better known to most of us as the knowledge center about the Delta Works. But did you know that Neeltje Jans has become a complete theme park where not only can you learn more about the Dutch coast and flood defenses, but you can also play to your heart’s content in the water playground, see sea lions and seals and come face to face with terrifying sharks in Zeeland’s largest aquarium?
Visiting Central Netherlands
North Brabant is of course known for the Efteling. At the beginning of this summer, we visited Holland’s most famous amusement park and wrote a blog about our experiences of this visit in Corona time.
Walibi Holland canbe found in Flevoland and is known for its spectacular roller coasters. If you are a real daredevil, a visit to this amusement park is definitely worth it!
For the little kids, Billybird Hemelrijk is also a great park to spend the day. The park consists of a large playground, a recreational lake and various attractions such as a roller coaster, boat slide and monorail.
The best amusement parks in the north of the Netherlands
In the north of our beautiful country you will find several lesser-known amusement parks. For example, you have Attractiepark Drouwenerzand in Drenthe where you have several roller coasters and carnival rides, as well as bumper cars, merry-go-rounds and, of course, a haunted house. In Nienoord, you can visit Landgoed Nienoord. This park consists of an estate, family park and swimming castle. The family park has as many as 50 different attractions and play equipment, a petting zoo and several miniature and steam trains.
Located in Friesland is Speel en dierenpark Sanjesfertier. Here you can go on safari, play in the indoor play paradise and have a great time in the boats, trains and cars. Attractiepark Duinen Zathe is located just on the border of Friesland and Drenthe, in Appelscha. You can take to the air in a variety of attractions or brave speed in a variety of roller coasters. Of course, they also have a playground here with several fun slides.
Amusement parks of our youth in eastern Netherlands
In the east of the country you will find the amusement parks Slagharen and Avonturenpark Hellendoorn. I think many of us know these parks from our own childhood. After all, almost all of us have been here at one time or another when we were little sprouts ourselves, right? Guest blogger Marian recently visited Slagharen during Corona time and writes about it in her blog. Adventure park Hellendoorn is fun for big and small. Here you can play, dance, slide and challenge yourself by stepping into the various high, exciting and fast roller coasters.
Spectacular roller coasters and great play in the south of the Netherlands
You can also find fun amusement parks in the south of the Netherlands. Toverland in Sevenum used to be known as the best amusement park for children under the age of 14, but has grown into a complete amusement park for the whole family. Step into the Fenix, Troy, Booster Bike Scorpios or Whirlwind for a bit of adrenaline. Or enjoy a spin on the water carousel and feel weightless for a moment on the carousel.
A little further south you’ll find Pretpark de Valkenier, an amusement park for all ages. De Valkenier is the oldest amusement park in the Netherlands where, for a small price, you can have fun all day with attractions such as a roller coaster, Ferris wheel, various fairground attractions and Dino World . But of course you can also play in the various playgrounds throughout the park, both indoors and outdoors.
In short, the Netherlands has plenty to do in terms of theme parks. Big, small, young, exciting or just plain fun. Every amusement park has something to suit you to spend a fun day.
