Vacation tips for teens

Is your teenager also just sitting idly on a screen during the vacations? We have teenagers in the house ourselves and know how annoying that can be. That’s why this blog is full of tips to do with your teenager. You’ll hear some grumbling, but in the end there’s bound to be a tip among them that they like!
Visit an Instagram museum!
A teenager may not initially be eager to visit a museum, but an Instagram museum is a completely different story! Here your teen can take the most beautiful photos (selfies) to impress his or her friends with. Because admit it: most of your teen’s life takes place online. The museums in this blog are anything but boring! Even you as a parent are bound to like it.
Day at an amusement park with your teenager
A day at an amusement park is always fun, even for your teenager! Besides all the well-known amusement parks, there are also lesser-known amusement parks in the Netherlands that are at least as much fun as the big (more expensive) ones. We have collected tips for you in this blog. And if you are not such a roller coaster hero yourself, take a friend of your teenager along!
City scavenger hunts
Take your teenager on a city scavenger hunt. Not to shop, but to scavenge! There are many providers of fun scavenger hunts to do, such as City Unique‘s WhatsApp tour. Or make it even more exciting with a Citygame!
To the beach!
Go to the beach for a day and take beach games with you. On quiet beaches, you can play kubb: a hilarious wooden throwing game. Is the beach a little busier? Then playing in the sea with a ball is always fun. You can also make your beach day a little more special with a surf lesson, for example. At Hart Beach in Scheveningen, surfing lessons are given for children and teenagers. Super fun to try! But also on other beaches there are places where your teenager can brave the waves under supervision. Very active and exciting!
Day climbing/bouldering
Don’t have water rats at home, but want to do something active? Then climbing or bouldering is a fun vacation tip for your teenager. Certainly bouldering is doable for everyone. There is no fuse involved and there are routes of varying degrees of difficulty. Climbing shoes can often be rented. Bouldering is a fun tip when the weather is a bit off. Nice bouldering halls include Delfts Bleau, Boulderhal Energiehaven in Utrecht, Rocksteady Bussum, Mountain Network Arnhem and Klimmuur Centraal Amsterdam.
To the cinema
Always fun: catching a movie with your teenager! Especially now that fun movies are back in theaters. For example, take your teenage daughter to the Barbie Movie or, starting at the end of August, go to the movie Greatest Days about a group of girlfriends who are totally crazy about the boy band Take That (they probably don’t know this band, but it’s still a really fun movie!) With your teenage son, go to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One or creep out with Meg 2: The Trench. Something sweet to go with it and enjoy watching it together!
Go shopping
Summer vacation is the time to shop for the new school year. You might do this faster with your teenage daughter than your teenage son, but they all need new clothes or school supplies. We’ve already captured some shopping tips for you in one of these blogs, but just a day of shopping at your own favorite mall is fine, too, of course. And is it raining? Then we also have tips for some indoor shopping.
To the bookstore at the library
Has your son or daughter discovered Booktok yet? On Tiktok under the hastag #booktok you can find all kinds of cool videos of teenagers touting their favorite books. Because of Booktok, the sales figures in bookstores have increased significantly, also in the Netherlands! So this is the perfect way to get your teenager’s nose into books! Then go together to a nice bookstore or to the library. That way you have a fun outing together and your teenager gets to read, win-win!
