From picturesque spots along the canals to bustling hotspots in the big cities, Holland offers something for everyone. So grab your sunglasses and join us on our journey along the country’s best terraces, highlighted by province.
Fun terraces in Groningen
In the northernmost tip of the Netherlands we find the province of Groningen, where cosiness is of paramount importance.
Located on the Grote Markt, Groningen’s iconic café with its spacious terrace is a real draw. Enjoy a drink while watching the bustling city life.
Museum-café the Pomphuis and its terrace on the A is the at one of the most beautiful spots in the city of Groningen. An attractive terrace by the water with large umbrellas against sun and rain. During the cold months we have heated seat/back cushions for drinks and/or lunch. Enjoy everything that passes by on the water.
For a more tranquil experience, visit Pavilion Sassenhein in Haren. Here you can have a big party, an intimate lunch, or just come for a trendy drink on the cozy terrace overlooking the water. In addition, Sassenhein is also a wedding venue.
Located on the Lauwersmeer, Het Booze Wijf in Lauwersoog is a cozy large terrace where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the museum harbor and the Lauwersmeer
Fun terraces in Friesland
Further west we find Friesland, known for its vast lakes and picturesque villages.
One cozy location is De Walrus in Leeuwarden. Located on an attractive square, this large terrace is the perfect place to enjoy a craft beer and local delicacies.
Take a trip to beautiful Ameland and enjoy Hotel Nobel’s lounge terrace. Overlooking the island’s picturesque landscape, this is the perfect place to relax after a day at the beach.
Fun terraces in Drenthe
In the heart of the Netherlands lies Drenthe, with its vast forests and quiet villages.
Highly recommended is Tea Time in Echten. This historic English café in a beautiful villa with terrace exudes a relaxed atmosphere. Enjoy a cup of coffee while taking in the peace and quiet of the Drenthe countryside.
At the Ermerstrand you will find De Beachclub and has a fantastic view over the lake. Directly nearby is an indoor play paradise for the little ones and a water-ski track for the older water rats.

Located on Assen’s historic Brink you’ll find De Bakker & De Schenker. From the spacious and cozy terrace you have a beautiful view of the Drentse Museum, the Kloosterkerk and the historic Brink.
Nice terraces in Overijssel
Overijssel offers a mix of natural beauty and bustling cities.
Highly recommended is De Waagschaal in Deventer. Located on the atmospheric Brink, this terrace is the ideal place to enjoy a snack and a drink while experiencing the historic charm of the city.
For a truly special experience, visit Restaurant 141 in picturesque Giethoorn. Located by the water, here you can enjoy a drink while admiring the passing boats. But they also offer various boat rental packages. Highly recommended!

Flevoland is our youngest province and the only one completely surrounded by water.
Relax on an open terrace in Almere with a cocktail in your hand while overlooking the fantastic water in Almere-Haven? Or enjoying tasty drink bites while daydreaming about your upcoming vacation? Then Restaurant Bakboord is the place for you.
The terrace of Restaurant De Cantine in Lelystad consists of two different levels and has a separate lounge area and overlooks the Oostvaardersdiep.
With a beautiful view over the water of the Wolderwijd, Brasserie Zuiderzoet in Zeewolde is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy good food and drinks.
Nice terraces in Gelderland
With its vast forests and imposing castles, Gelderland is a paradise for terrace lovers.
A must in Zevenaar is Stadsbrouwerij Wittenburg. This cozy terrace is located nice and central on the Markt in the city center. This is by far one of the nicest summer hang-outs in Zevenaar. On sunny summer days, you really want to be here!
But De Waagh, located on Nijmegen’s historic Grote Markt square, also offers a cozy terrace where you can enjoy local delicacies and a beautiful view of the Waal bridge.

Utrecht, with its atmospheric canals and bustling terraces, is an absolute hotspot for terrace lovers.

Tapas restaurant Destino on Zaagmolenkade has a spacious terrace on the waterfront of the Rotte River.
