Fun tips for spring break

Spring break is already upon us! If you have children at home, you know that it is tempting for them to look at a screen all day. Therefore, take the kids out and do a fun activity. In this blog, we will help you think of some fun activities and give several tips for indoors and outdoors. Because the weather is really shooting in all directions in February!
Outdoor adventures
Is the sun shining? Get outside and enjoy the beautiful Dutch nature! Take the kids to the forest, the beach or to a fun nature playground where they can have a good time.
In Dutch National Parks such as the Veluwe, Weerribben-Wieden, Zuid-Kennemerland or the Biesbosch, you can go on a treasure hunt under the guidance of a forest ranger. Many nature reserves organize special child-friendly trails where they learn about the animals and plants in the area. Here children can have fun while learning something new about the nature around them. A visit to Museum Island Biesbosch is also great for water lovers. Both inside and outside (including on the water!) there is plenty to see and do.
Fun museums for the spring break
At GeoFort in Herwijnen everything revolves around the earth, focusing on the themes of climate, energy and water. Fun and educational too! During the school vacations Geofort is open more often and they organize all kinds of fun activities. Does your child love Minecraft? Then this museum is really a great outing, but even if your children do not like gaming, there is plenty to do and experience in the museum.
Always wanted to know how people used to live in the Netherlands? Then visit Museumpark Archeon during spring break! At Archeon you literally step back in time and children can learn things like candle making and archery. Because the park is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, there is an anniversary exhibition and during spring break you can enjoy the Time Magician show with the whole family.
Are you looking for a unique day out with kids in North Brabant? Then go on an adventure at the preHistoric Village in Eindhoven! This historic open-air museum is the perfect place to playfully learn about life in the past. Javelin throwing, cloak pin making or bread baking: there is always something to do in this hands-on museum.
We previously wrote a blog about fun hands-on museums in our country. Read this blog for more inspiration!
Take a mini city trip
How about a mini city trip? Explore a city with a scavenger hunt. You can actually do that in any city. The kids love it, but it’s also a must for you. You will suddenly look at a city with completely different eyes. We already did a photo hunt in Amersfoort but we also have a great tip in Delft.
Many tourist information offices have fun city walks online, like the one we did in Deventer. So get out and about! Out and about with an app? You can with the walks from Walk The City. Download the app, choose a starting point and you can start right away: Walk Smart, Walk the City! Prefer an offline walk with an exciting twist? Then The Little Walk of Horrors ‘ dark city walks are a must. During your Horror Walk you will pass places and buildings with a gory history or ghost story. Suitable for ages 12 and up, making it fun to do with older children.
Go out by car
Tour the Westland with your family in an ugly duckling? You can at: Duckling Tours Westland. You can do a tour with your own household, but also with another company. You will be sent out with a route description and guided around the beautiful Westland. Besides enjoying the scenery, there is also a goal. The children will be given a bingo card to recognize all kinds of objects along the way and be able to cross off to get BINGO!
Also fun to do: a car puzzle tour along the Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinies. Puzzle together all the answers and pass exciting forts! Or visit the island of Pampus with its exciting fort! Taking a road trip through the Netherlands is always fun, even with the kids. We wrote a blog about this earlier because there are lots of fun road trips to do in our country, even during spring break!
Indoor fun
Those who like to fill the vacations with some extra action can head to an indoor play paradise. Places like Monkey Town and Ballorig have climbing equipment and bouncy castles for hours of fun, even on a rainy day. For the older adventurers, there are climbing parks Adventure City in Rotterdam, where you can take on an adventurous climbing course. At The City food & fun in ‘s-Gravenzande you can have fun all day with activities such as laser gaming, bowling, glow in the dark mini-golf, bocce, climbing and clambering or singing in the karaoke rooms. And for little ones, a visit to Peppa Pig World is truly an experience in itself! Do you have teenagers in the house? Then hit the nail on the head when you go to an Instagram museum.
Having fun at home with creative activities
For days when you’d rather stay home, treat the kids to a creative day. Painting, baking or a movie afternoon are perfect for a cozy time at home. For example, organize a board game tournament or create a piece of art together that can later show off on the wall. That way, you’ll turn even the quiet moments into happy vacation memories. In the blog Crafting with kids, we give tips for getting creative with the little ones. Girls at home? Organize a beauty afternoon.
You see, plenty of tips to plan something fun. Happy spring break!
