On vacation in your own country

Many people choose to spend the May vacation in their own country at a vacation park, for example. And that is very nice. Experience shows that the weather in the Netherlands in April/May is already fine. There is probably plenty to do at most parks, but also in the vicinity of the park are usually several fun things to see and do in the area. Don’t forget to bring fun games! If you are still looking for a nice park for a vacation or weekend getaway, we have tips for you. How about a weekend in Deventer, for example? Really a fun city for the whole family!

Romping around in nature

Getting active in nature is the most fun there is. Visit a climbing park this May vacation, for example! Or visit an adventure playground! Find examples of these in our blog on outdoor playgrounds. Other fun playgrounds are Robin Hood in the Haagse Bos or Speelpolder Het WIJland in Schiedam. And how about Tiengemeten? Poldersport De Kwakel is also open and how much fun is it to do all kinds of challenging games in the open air? Here you can work together or compete against each other. And all this between the cows that are quietly grazing! More fun activity farms can be found here. So guaranteed a relaxing and fun day in the May vacation.

Learn something about a special city

Exploring a city is also great fun. Also with children. In Utrecht, for example, you can explore the city on foot, by bike or even by canoe with Utours. The guide knows everything about the city and takes you to places you may never have been before! Another way to get to know a city well is to do an interactive game in it. For example, through City Unique. Which has all kinds of fun city games in cities of your choice. They also have fun games for kids! Do you prefer to go out by yourself? Then get inspiration from our previously published“Getting out and about in…” blogs. Also fun: download a walking app and explore a city on your own.

Visit a museum

The Netherlands has lots of great museums! For example, the National Military Museum in Soest is highly recommended! Besides the informative rooms there, they also have a huge hangar full of vehicles from the army and air force. Outside, on the grounds, there is also plenty to do. In 2023, it will be 125 years since M.C. Escher was born. So the perfect time to visit the Escher Museum. Get carried away by the beautiful and extraordinary creations. When we were in Deventer we visited several nice museums. Definitely worthwhile all of them. Are you in Deventer this May vacation? Then visit the Hunebed Museum in Borger! You’ll also find the largest hunebed found intact in the Netherlands. Need even more inspiration? Then read our blog about museum visits for the whole family and our blog about open-air museums. Because they are also open again!

Tips for bad weather

Sometimes the weather can be bad. Then you have to think of something to do with the kids. For example, how about doing some crafts? Or let them make a cabin and bring them tasty snacks and drinks in their homemade creation. Go baking with them, such as a cake, cookies or pancakes. It is also always helpful to have small, inexpensive gifts in the house so you can host a bingo afternoon or let them win prizes in mind games. Or do an online escape game! Or play a regular game. You probably have some in the house. There is always something to come up with! Have a great May vacation!
