8 tips for a wonderful summer vacation

Summer vacation is just around the corner! For many people, that means a period of rest and relaxation. And finally time to do fun things! But what? We can give you tips for that!

Enjoy the beach!

A day at the beach is always wonderful! The kids have fun with the sea and the sand and you can enjoy a nice book or a cozy magazine. Earlier we wrote a blog about a day at the beach in our own country with our favorite Dutch beaches. If you don’t live near the beach, that doesn’t mean you can’t go to the beach! In fact, there are also several city beaches in our country! These may not be by the sea, but they are often located by a nice lake. Don’t forget to lubricate your children and yourself well. Even with a breeze, the sun can burn treacherously. And bring plenty of water. Really enjoy the summer vacations!

Outdoor swimming

Do your kids love to swim, but don’t dare let them loose in the sea yet? Then go to a nice outdoor pool or to a lake where you can swim outside. Here you can keep a closer eye on your children. That way it will be a relaxing day for everyone. Bring an inflatable bed and go! Often an outdoor pool or lake has a large lawn where you can picnic. Hit the water!

Don’t like swimming but love to be on the water? Then we have tips for you for this summer vacation! Rent a whisper boat! With a whisper boat you can go to many more areas than with a motorboat and you don’t need any special license. Anyone can take it out on the water! So pack a picnic basket and get out on the water! Renting a sloop is also fun or make a whole day of it by renting a boat in the Biebosch.

Hiking and biking

Our country is perfect for getting out and about by bicycle or on foot. Especially in the summer vacations! There are lots of different cycling and walking routes that are really fun to do! Download for example the app from Walk the City! Here you will find lots of different walks, both in the city and in nature. Want a more adventurous walk? Discover the Netherlands by car

Do you want to travel some longer distances or is the weather not quite cooperating? Then take a nice road trip in your own country! There are really lots of fun routes to drive, especially in the summer vacations! Or do a fun car puzzle tour! We recently did one with a fortress route along the Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinies and it was a real success. There are also tours you can book with special cars. Very fun when you are with a larger group. Duck Tours Westland rents out the characteristic Deux-Cheveaux and does a nice route in the Westland.

To the amusement park!

A day at an amusement park is fun for young and old. Of course you can go to the Efteling, but you can also choose a smaller amusement park. Often it is a little less crowded there and you won’t have to queue as long. Especially with younger children, waiting is a disaster. Do you like some exciting outings? Then you should definitely read this blog for real daredevils.

A day among the animals

A day among animals is always fun. Of course, you can visit a large well-known zoo, but a small zoo also definitely has its charms. We wrote a blog about it earlier. And don’t forget the butterfly gardens! Those are almost enchanting! But there are many other fun beastly outings. We love them, but only if the animals are treated well.

Oh help, it’s raining!

Unfortunately, the sun can’t shine all the time. It can also rain during summer vacation. Not to worry! Because there is plenty to do indoors. Visit a nice museum! This is not only fun but also very educational. The Gevangenpoort in The Hague is a great outing for the older children and if you have creative children, an afternoon at Villa Zebra in Rotterdam is also recommended! Someone in the family with a fascination for the army or air force? Then the National Military Museum is highly recommended! Do you have teenagers in the house? Then visit an Instagram Museum or a wacky museum like Ripley’s Believe it or Not! in Amsterdam.
